SAMR Model
The SAMR model is a framework designed to help educators integrate technology into teaching and learning effectively. It stands for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition. This model was developed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura and provides a way to assess and categorize the use of technology in educational settings. Here's a breakdown of each level:
- Substitution: Technology replaces traditional tools with no change in function (e.g., typing instead of writing by hand).
- Augmentation: Technology replaces traditional tools with added functionality (e.g., using spell check in a word processor).
- Modification: Technology allows for significant redesign of tasks (e.g., collaborative writing with real-time feedback).
- Redefinition: Technology enables the creation of new, previously impossible tasks (e.g., multimedia projects shared globally).
This model encourages moving from basic substitution to innovative uses that transform learning.
ICT Integration Model - SAMR Model
Design the learning activity for primary children with four levels of the SAMR model integration.
Lesson no: 1
Teacher Name: Devika Rai
Subject: Social Studies
Topic: Weather
Class: IV
Time: 45 minutes
Teaching learning materials: Google Docs, PowerPoint, video link, images, digital tools
ICT model: SAMR model
Previous knowledge: they have learned about the season.
Lesson objectives: By the end of the lesson the children will be able to (SMART or ABCD model):
define whether in their own words after the information input
identify weather and state at least three examples, correctly
state the importance of weather in daily life.
Lesson Introduction (5mins)
Begin the lesson by questioning their previous knowledge of the weather. After that give a gist of the topic using a linked video of a weather song.
Lesson Development (10mins)
Information input
Introduce the concept with detailed definitions and information on a PowerPoint presentation using images of different weather conditions along with a video portraying the importance of weather.
Activity 1 (10mins)
Students will play a game in groups using Kahoot.
The questions will be related to the importance of weather.
The winner will be awarded with cheers.
Activity 2 (10mins)
Using the Autodraw students will design their favorite weather and insert their names.
Monitoring
The teacher walks around the classroom to ensure that every student is participating.
Follow up (5mins)
A quick gallery walk will be done to explore everyone’s drawing on their favorite weather.
Lesson Closure (5mins)
The teacher will summarize the lesson learned.
Highlight the important points.
